Defense leads No. 15 Milford Mill past No. 11 New Town, 52–50

Defense set the tone as No. 15 Milford Mill opened its season with a hard-fought 52–50 victory over No. 11 New Town in a matchup between two ranked programs.

Sophomore Rest Uwabun emerged as a defensive menace down the stretch, coming up with key stops in the final minutes to help seal the win. His effort and composure stood out in a tight finish.

Uwabun finished the night with a double-double, recording 6 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. All six of his points came in the fourth quarter, highlighting his ability to rise when the game mattered most.

On the defensive end, the sophomore was everywhere — adding 5 blocks and 3 steals while bringing nonstop energy. It was a complete performance from an energetic, defense-first player who continues to prove he belongs in big moments.

As the final buzzer sounded, Milford Mill players and students flooded the court, celebrating and storming the floor with their signature “bird” celebration to mark the emotional season-opening victory.
